ICMGは、私たちが注力する領域の一つである気候変動対策の取り組みの一環として、DAC Coalitionの理念・活動に賛同し、このたび同連合のエコシステムメンバーに正式加盟いたしました。

DAC Coalition は、気候変動に対処し、より持続可能で公平、かつ豊かな未来を切り開くための重要なソリューションである Direct Air Capture （DAC）のために、グローバルなイノベーターを集め、社会を動かしています。テクノロジー、ビジネス、金融、政府、地域コミュニティなど、多様でグローバルなイノベーターを集め、DACを中心とした教育、環境活動へのエンゲージメント普及などを通し、気候変動問題への国際的な取り組みを支援しています。

二酸化炭素を回収・除去する技術。ネガティヴ・エミッション・テクノロジー（NET）とも呼ばれ、大気中の二酸化炭素を直接回収するシステムです。回収されたCO2は、建築材料などの長寿命耐久製品への利用や、食品や飲料の加工、また水素と結合して合成燃料を生産するなどの応用ができるため、実績のあるソリューションや新興のソリューションが増えてきています。

最近の国連気候変動に関する政府間パネル（IPCC）第6次評価報告書では、気候変動の影響は「広範囲に及び、急速であり、激化している」ことが明らかにされました。洪水、干ばつ、熱波、山火事、豪雨、氷山融解など近年見られる深刻な被害は、大気中のCO2やその他の温室効果ガス（GHGs）の人為的な排出が原因です。

しかし、現在排出されているco2量を削減するだけでは、この急激な気候変動を止めるには間に合わないと科学的に予測されています。壊滅的な気候変動を食い止めるためには、排出を減らすだけでなく、今後10年以内に何千億トンものCO2を除去する必要があると言われています。DACによる大気からのCO2の回収は、空気のあるところに設置すればその技術が取り入れられるため、地球の未来にとって大変重要な役割を担っています。

ICMGは、今後もDAC技術のさらなる発展、およびその先にある気候変動への対策に注力して参ります。
