2020年3月、ヤマト運輸は愛知県南知多町と共に、町内の空き家の様子をレポート化して遠隔地に住むオーナーへ送付する社会実験「空き家見守りサービス」を共同実施しました。当プロジェクトは、ヤマト運輸社内において新しい事業を提案する社内公募制度を起点としたもので、南知多町の空き家問題への対策の一つとして実施。ICMGはプロジェクトパートナーとして、提案段階～実施に至るまで一連して協働しました。

ヤマト運輸の配達スタッフやドライバー等のメンバーが、空き家の状況について現地を確認した後、「自分の空き家が今どうなっているか」がわかるように、現状を示す写真とレポート（破損の程度や庭木・雑草の繁茂状況などをまとめたチェックシート）を提供。また希望する方には、専門家による空き家の利活用に関する相談も実施。

南知多町は愛知県内で最も空き家率が高く、2018年に総務省が実施した調査では空き家率が21.6％に達しています。また同町が2016〜2017年に全建物を対象に行った実態調査によると、町内の空家候補は990軒（そのうち、老朽・危険なものは77軒）。そこで同町では、2018年以降「南知多町空家等対策計画」を策定して空き家問題に対応。しかし空き家のオーナーが町外の遠隔地に住む場合も多く、アプローチの手段は豊富ではありませんでした。

ヤマト運輸とICMGが協働して空き家問題に関するヒアリングをする中で、「遠隔地に住んでいるのですぐに様子を見に行けないが、ご近所迷惑になっていないか気になるし、確認のためだけに赴くのに費用も手間もかかっている」という空き家オーナーの悩みが浮き彫りになりました。そこでヤマト運輸の全国におよぶネットワークを活かし、配達業務の際にスタッフが空き家の様子を記録することを起案。さらに空き家問題に向き合う南知多町が賛同し、当自治体が発送する固定資産税の納税通知書の封筒の中にチラシ（※右記画像）を入れることで当取り組みを周知しました。

実際に当サービスを利用した空き家オーナーからは、「管理に伴う多大な労力、交通費、所要時間を踏まえると、状態確認と空き家管理役務のハードルが下がったことに価値を感じる」との声を複数いただきました。また、当取り組みは、民間企業と自治体がセクターの垣根を越えて社会課題解決へと向き合うプロジェクトとなり、空き家対策としては全国初の社会実験として複数のメディアで取り上げられました。
